Pre-orders for GTA 6 have not opened yet as of July 2026, but they will go live before you know it. Rockstar typically opens pre-orders 2 to 3 months before launch, which puts the pre-order window in August or September 2026. When they go live, things will move fast. Collector editions sell out. Retailer bonuses disappear. Prices fluctuate. This guide gives you everything you need to pre-order the right edition from the right retailer without overpaying.

the three editions explained

Rockstar has not yet published the official edition lineup for GTA 6. Based on their history with GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, three tiers are almost certain:

standard edition

The base game. Nothing extra. Expected price: $69.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

This is the edition for you if you just want to play the game and do not care about cosmetic extras or in-game currency bonuses. You get the full story, the full map, and full access to online modes (when available). The only thing you miss is bonus content that gives you a head start or visual customization.

deluxe / special edition

The mid-tier package. Includes the base game plus digital bonus content. Expected price: $79.99 to $89.99.

Based on past Rockstar releases, the Deluxe edition typically includes:

  • A bundle of in-game currency (GTA$, or whatever the GTA 6 equivalent is)
  • One or two exclusive vehicles
  • Cosmetic outfit packs
  • Possibly a bonus mission or side activity

The GTA 5 Special Edition included a blueprint map, bonus outfits, a stunt plane trial, and extra in-game cash. If GTA 6 follows the same pattern, the Deluxe edition is worth it if you want early in-game money or exclusive vehicles. If you would rather earn everything through gameplay, skip it.

collector’s edition

The top tier. Includes everything from the Deluxe edition plus a physical collectible item. Expected price: $149.99 to $199.99.

GTA 5’s Collector’s Edition came with a Newbury Comics exclusive deposit bag, a steelbook case, a hat, and all digital Deluxe content. It sold for $149.99. Red Dead Redemption 2 had an Ultimate Edition at $99.99 (digital extras only) and a separate Special Edition with physical items.

For GTA 6, I expect a physical collectible (statue, art book, or replica item) bundled with all Deluxe digital content. These Collector editions are produced in limited quantities and historically sell out within hours of pre-orders going live. If you want one, you need to be ready the moment pre-orders open.

which retailer has the best bonuses

Retailer-specific pre-order bonuses are common for AAA games. Rockstar has not announced retailer bonuses for GTA 6 yet, but based on industry patterns, here is what to expect from the major retailers:

Amazon

Amazon is reliable for pre-orders. They offer a pre-order price guarantee, which means if the price drops between your pre-order and launch day, you pay the lower price. If the price goes up, you keep your original price. Amazon also offers fast shipping for Prime members, so you can get the game on release day without paying extra.

Amazon has historically offered small pre-order bonuses like exclusive in-game items or a small credit ($5 to $10) toward future purchases. These are not announced until pre-orders go live. Check our updates when the date is confirmed.

Best Buy

Best Buy has been aggressive with pre-order bonuses in recent years. They often offer $10 in reward certificates for My Best Buy members who pre-order. They also price match Amazon and other major retailers, so you will not overpay.

Best Buy’s edge is their rewards program. If you are a My Best Buy Plus or Total member, you can stack rewards points, get exclusive deals, and sometimes receive early access to limited editions. If you buy games regularly, Best Buy’s program can save you money over time.

GameStop

GameStop is the place to go for Collector editions. They typically receive the largest allocation of physical special editions and are more likely to have stock when other retailers sell out. GameStop also offers trade-in credit, so if you have old games or consoles you no longer play, you can trade them in toward your GTA 6 pre-order and reduce the out-of-pocket cost.

GameStop’s pre-order bonuses are usually in-game items or exclusive physical swag (lanyards, posters, keychains). These are not always worth much, but if you are buying the game anyway, you might as well get something extra.

PlayStation Store and Xbox Store

Digital pre-orders through the console storefronts are the simplest option. You pre-order, the game downloads automatically before launch, and you can play the moment the clock hits midnight on November 19. No shipping, no disc, no waiting.

The downside is price. Digital stores rarely offer discounts or bonuses comparable to what Amazon or Best Buy provide. You will pay full price ($69.99), and you will not get any retailer-specific bonus. The convenience of digital is the selling point, not the deal.

One advantage of digital: some games offer a few days of early access for pre-ordering the Deluxe or Premium edition. Rockstar did this with certain editions of past releases. If GTA 6 offers early access for a higher tier, digital pre-order is the way to get it immediately.

pre-order price guarantees explained

A pre-order price guarantee means the retailer commits to charging you the lowest price offered between the time you pre-order and the time the game ships. If you pre-order at $69.99 and the price drops to $59.99 a week before launch, you pay $59.99. If the price goes up to $79.99, you still pay $69.99.

This guarantee is standard at Amazon and Best Buy. GameStop’s policy varies by promotion, so check the terms when you pre-order.

The practical effect is that there is no risk in pre-ordering early. You lock in your copy (important for Collector editions that sell out) and you do not pay more if the price increases. If you wait and the price drops, you miss out on the guarantee. If you wait and the price goes up, you pay more.

My advice: pre-order as soon as pre-orders go live, especially for Collector editions. The price guarantee protects you from increases, and you secure a copy before stock runs out.

which edition should you buy?

Here is my honest take on each tier:

Buy the Standard edition if: You want to play the game and do not care about extras. The standard edition gives you the full experience. You can earn in-game money through gameplay. Cosmetic vehicles are nice but not necessary. Most players will be happy with this.

Buy the Deluxe edition if: You want a head start with in-game currency or you are a completionist who wants every vehicle and outfit. The price difference ($10 to $20 over standard) is reasonable for the bonus content. If you know you will spend hundreds of hours in the game, the extra currency saves you grinding early on.

Buy the Collector edition if: You are a serious GTA fan who wants a physical collectible. These editions are limited, they sell out, and they often hold or increase in value over time. The GTA 5 Collector edition is now worth more than its original retail price on resale markets. If you want one, pre-order the moment they go live.

how to prepare for pre-order day

When pre-orders go live, do not be caught off guard. Here is what to do:

  1. Decide your edition now. Do not wait until pre-orders are live to figure out which one you want. Collector editions sell out in hours, sometimes minutes. Know your choice before the announcement.

  2. Create accounts at multiple retailers. If Amazon sells out of the Collector edition, you want to be able to immediately check Best Buy or GameStop. Having accounts set up with saved payment methods saves minutes, and minutes matter.

  3. Enable notifications from Rockstar. Follow Rockstar on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, and turn on notifications. Pre-order announcements come without warning.

  4. Check back here. We will update this guide the moment pre-orders go live with direct links to every retailer and every edition. Bookmark this page.

GTA 6 pre-orders will be one of the biggest online retail events of 2026. The game will sell millions of copies in its first week. If you want a specific edition, especially the Collector edition, treat pre-order day like a product drop. Be online, be ready, and do not hesitate.
